  The conveyor drum is the core component of the power transmission and direction control of the belt conveyor, mainly divided into two types: the drive drum (transmitting power and driving the belt to run) and the deflection drum (changing the running direction of the belt and tensioning the belt). Through the design of "high-strength drum shell + precision shaft system + wear-resistant and anti-skid / sealing structure", it achieves the operation goals of "high load capacity, strong driving force, wear resistance, and low failure rate". It is widely used in belt conveyor systems in mining, coal, building materials, ports, grain and other industries. It is a key component to ensure the stability of power transmission and the controllability of the running direction of the conveyor.
  1. Core Features
  High-strength Carrying and Driving:The drum shell is made of Q355B/Q460 high-strength steel plates by rolling and welding, with a wall thickness of 8-30mm (adjustable according to the carrying requirements), the yield strength of the drum shell ≥ 345MPa, and can withstand torque of 50-2000kNm. The drive drum is compatible with motor power of 11-1000kW, which can meet the power demand of heavy-duty conveyors with a single machine conveying capacity of 100-5000m3/h, and is compatible with the transportation of large-load materials such as mine ore and coal.
  Wear-resistant and Anti-skid Design:The surface of the drive drum is treated with "tire" processing, with different tire materials: natural rubber (hardness 60±5 Shore A, suitable for ordinary working conditions), wear-resistant rubber (hardness 70±5 Shore A, wear resistance increased by 40%, suitable for strong wear working conditions), ceramic particle rubber (ceramic content ≥ 30%, wear life is 3-5 times that of ordinary tire, suitable for high-wear materials in mines), effectively increasing the friction between the drum and the belt, avoiding slipping, and ensuring the efficiency of power transmission.
  Sealing Protection and Corrosion Resistance:The shaft system adopts a "double seal" structure, with a nitrile rubber skeleton oil seal on the inner side (resistant to oil, temperature range - 30℃-120℃) and a maze-type dust seal on the outer side, with a protection grade of up to IP65, which can block dust, water vapor, and material particles from entering the bearing chamber; in corrosive working conditions (such as chemical industry, coastal ports), 304/316 stainless steel drum shells or surface spraying of anti-corrosion coating (epoxy resin / polytetrafluoroethylene) can be selected, with a neutral salt spray test resistance of ≥ 100 hours, avoiding drum rust.
  Adapt to multiple scenarios: Customizable according to conveyor type (universal, heavy-duty, explosion-proof), drive drums support "single motor drive" "double motor drive" (for large torque requirements), idler drums can be customized with models such as "smooth surface", "Rubber-coated", "with brake disc", etc.; underground mine drums meet Ex d I Mb explosion-proof standards, food industry drums use food-grade rubber coating (complies with FDA standards), meeting special requirements of different industries.
  Low maintenance and long life: Bearings are selected as self-aligning ball bearings (such as 22215, 22220 models), with strong radial load capacity, combined with long-lasting lubricant (lithium-based grease / synthetic grease), the bearing service life can exceed 30,000 hours; the drum shell is stress-relieved after welding, with radial roundness ≤0.1mm/m, stable operation without vibration, reducing maintenance frequency and lowering O & M costs.
  2. Application scenarios
  Mining / Coal industry: Drive drums (ceramic rubber coating) are used for underground / ground heavy-duty conveyors, transmitting power to transport矿石、coal, idler drums (wear-resistant rubber coating) are used at the tail or turning points of the conveyor, adapting to high wear, large load working conditions; explosion-proof drums are used in the underground gas environment to avoid electrical components causing safety hazards.
  Building materials industry: Drive drums (普通 rubber coating) are used for cement, sand and stone conveyors, idler drums (smooth surface) are used for the return section of the conveyor, adapting to working conditions with more cement dust, the coating can reduce the slipping of the conveyor belt.
  Port / Logistics industry: Heavy-duty drive drums (double motor drive) are used for coal and ore transfer conveyors at bulk cargo ports, with a single drum driving power of up to 500kW, adapting to large flow (≥3000m3/h) conveying requirements; stainless steel idler drums are used in coastal ports to resist sea water corrosion.
  Grain / Food industry: Drive drums (food-grade rubber coating) are used for grain and flour conveyors to avoid material contamination; idler drums (smooth surface, surface polished treatment) are used for the empty section of the conveyor belt, reducing grain residue.

Rubber type (drive / partial take-up drum)

Natural rubber (NR), wear-resistant rubber (NR+SBR compounding), ceramic particle rubber (Al₂O₃ ceramic + rubber)

For normal wear, natural rubber (thickness 10-15mm) is selected; for strong wear, ceramic rubber (thickness 15-20mm) is selected.

Shaft arrangement

Shaft material: 45# steel (tempered, hardness HB220-250); bearings: self-aligning ball bearings (222 series, 230 series)

High speeds can cause bearings to overheat, it is recommended to ≤200r/min (diameter ≤630mm)

The load-bearing capacity must cover the total weight of the conveyor belt + material, safety factor ≥ 1.3

Custom high-temperature bearings (such as high-temperature self-aligning ball bearings) are required to exceed the temperature range.

Life is affected by the wear of the rubber coating and the aging of the bearings, regular maintenance can extend the life.

Explosion-proof drums shall be equipped with explosion-proof motors, explosion-proof bearings, and explosion-proof junction boxes.

Corrosion resistance (stainless steel drum)

304 Stainless steel: corrosion resistance to neutral salt spray ≥ 100 hours; 316 Stainless steel: corrosion resistance to neutral salt spray ≥ 500 hours

Chemical industry, coastal ports need to confirm corrosive media, select the corresponding stainless steel material

Food-grade certification (food industry drum)

The rubber meets FDA 21 CFR Part 177.1520 and EU 10/2011 standards.

Food-grade inspection reports are required to avoid material contamination.

  Note
  1. Please provide the "type of conveyor (general / heavy), belt width / speed, conveyor capacity, material characteristics (weight / abrasiveness / corrosiveness), working environment (temperature / humidity / explosion-proof requirements)" for the selection, to ensure that the drum torque, load capacity and conveyor match;
  2. The rubber covering of the drive drum needs to be regularly checked for wear, and when the thickness of the rubber covering is worn to 1/3 of the original thickness, it needs to be re-covered in time to avoid direct contact and wear between the drum shell and the conveyor belt;
  3. When the drum is installed, the axis needs to be parallel to the center line of the conveyor, with a radial roundness ≤0.1mm/m, to avoid the conveyor belt deviating during operation; before restarting after a long period of shutdown, it is necessary to check the lubrication state of the bearings, and then start after supplementing the lubricating grease.
